Brazil
Mission Trip
A mission team of adults and youth will participate in Brazil’s “Shade & Fresh Water Project”.
July 10 -22, 2008 our team will be in the city of Bela Horizonte, Brazil.
They will be ministering to the street children of the city.
CUMC’s puppets are excited too! They will be traveling with us to share the Gospel message in Portuguese, the language of Brazil. How
can that be? God has connected one of our team members with a local Brazilian
national who is willing to translate the several Bible messages the puppets will do
for the children participating in Brazil’s “Shade & Fresh Water Project”.
More of Laurie Shertzer’s
delicious and nutritious meals to come on: April 6, May 7, June

As your CUMC Brazil Mission Team prepares by learning about the culture, currency,
geography, history, customs, and social fabric of Brazil, we seek your prayers and thank you for your support.

chosen for her commitment to mission and through audition.
This
year Voices

Youth will travel to
Brazil
and work with children in the Shade and Fresh Water Project, one of the
United Methodist Initiatives of Hope. CUMC has always been generous in its
support of Voices
of Youth, and our participants have rarely had to pay out of
pocket to go. This year the cost per singer is $2900. You may donate
through the church office, and note Voices
of Youth in the memo line of your check.

Fun things to
do .....
Our youth have a new name! On Sunday
March 13, the youth voted to name their youth group Fusion. All upcoming events involving the
youth will have this new name attached.
Sunday Night Fusion is for youth from 6th-12th grade. It
runs on Sunday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with an optional time fellowship running from 8:30
p.m. to 9 p.m. All youth are encouraged to come out and enjoy a time of food, faith, fellowship, and fun.
HUNGRY! This is the best way to describe our youth in this upcoming month.
Over the next couple of weeks, the youth of Fusion will know what it means to
hunger for the lost, to hunger for the presence of God, and even to hunger for
simple non-metaphorical food.
On April 4 our youth will begin to experience what it means to hunger for the
lost in their community as we attempt a test run of our new Cornerstone Coffeehouse
ministry. While its official kick off is May 2, this dry run will allow us to
evaluate any weaknesses in our current plan. The overarching goal of this coffee
house is to be an outreach to youth and young adults in the community, by providing
a safe and positive atmosphere where they can unwind and have a good time.
Look for our article next month for a more in-depth preview of this exciting new
outreach. While we hope that this event will support itself, donations of coffee,
tea, juice, baked goods, mixes, snacks, and other various small food items will be
needed for the first few months. These can be brought to the church office, and
should be labeled “Cornerstone” or “Coffeehouse.”
“We don’t eat so others can.” That is the way one student explained the upcoming
fundraiser being held for the hungry worldwide. On Friday, April 11, the youth will be participating in an event held by World Vision called 30 Hour Famine.
With the notion that $1 feeds someone for 1 day, the goal of the 30 Hour Famine is for each youth to raise $360 or 12 sponsors at $30 each ($1/hr.) This is
enough to feed one child for an entire year! Please help our youth by agreeing to
become a sponsor. You may contact Phil at the church office for a list of available
participants. Also, you may decide to donate to the group as a whole. These donations
will be divided among all participants. We would also appreciate gifts of 100% fruit juice for the lock-in on the day of the event. These juices should be
non-acidic, as the youth will drink them on an empty stomach, and can be dropped
off at the church office labeled “Famine.”
Lastly, April 20 will be our annual Youth Sunday. This year's theme is “Jesus,
My Everything,” and the verse Philippians 4:12-13: "I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the
secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with
plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."
The youth will be leading all three services on that day. While the youth will
add their own energy to each service, the worship format will remain close to the
current format, with Epic performing at the 9:45 service. The youth will perform
a sign interpretation and very poignant and moving skit during the services. In
addition, we have two youth speakers for every service.
The youth of Fusion have a busy April ahead of them, but as stated earlier:
“[we] can do everything through Christ, who gives [us] strength.”

Columbine High
School
April 20 marks the 9th anniversary
of the massacre at Columbine High School. As one who was in high school during this time, this is an event that is
one I do not think I will ever forget. So much changed after that day. Even as
we remember those we lost at Virginia Tech, I ask that we would also keep those affected by Columbine in our
prayers. One person in particular to remember is Cassie Bernall, who gave her
life after asked the question, “Do you believe in God?”
Flyleaf remember Cassie with their
song of the same name:
The question asked in order to save her life or take it.
The answer, no, to avoid death,
the answer, yes, would make it.
Do you believe in God, written on the bullet,
say yes to pull the
trigger.
All heads are bowed in silence, to remember her
Her last words still hanging in the
air, in the air.
How many will die, I will die. I, I will say yes.
Do you believe in God?
Do you believe in God?
Do you believe in God?
And I will pull the trigger.
Cassie is truly a modern martyr, a Jesus Freak to the core. My ending question
is: Would you have answered “yes?”
