Church Council
What is in a name? In the tradition
of “naming”, the ancient Hebrews believed that “To be called” was the same
as “to be” because of the intimate connection between names and the persons
or places that carried those names. Also in ancient times, it was understood that
a name defined the character of someone or something, so you can see why the naming ritual became so important.
Our church name is Community
United Methodist Church, which presumes a connection and emphasis on outreach and ministry with the community
surrounding our church. Thus the name Community UMC becomes much more important in the whole because
of what is behind our name: our Body of Christ which is you! Our strength of
character as a church depends on all of us!
So what does this have to do with the CUMC Church Council? Glad you asked! Your Church Council is prayerfully pursuing a thorough investigation
of ideas, facts, projections and resources as we seek to “paint” a picture
of our church’s ability to share the love of Christ with our existing parishioners
and neighbors in our “community”. Our objective is to develop a long term plan
to empower our church membership,
increase regular attendance and enhance Christian activities over the next
5 years. We want to build our character and strengthen our connection with
Christ!
To help us discern the future look of Community UMC, we desire your ideas, comments, and input. If you want
to convey your thoughts to us, we have created an email address through CUMC specifically for Visioning. Only
the Vision Group will see your remarks: vision@communityumc.org
. We hope to hear from you soon!
