Spring Celebration
- April 27.
It is that time again – the time when
we see the Renewing Power of God begin to alive all around us. The grass is
greening up, the trees are beginning to look more like trees and less like a
bundle of sticks, the birds are busy building their nests – and we at Community
United Methodist Church are getting ready for our entire congregation
to celebrate our new life in Christ together. The theme of this year’s event
is “God is in Every House!”
Mark April 27 on your calendars. We will hold our Spring
Celebration in the social hall immediately following the 11:00 service. The
luncheon will be a “pot-luck” lunch, so please plan to bring your favorite main
dish, vegetable, salad, and/or dessert. All church members, potential members, friends of members, and all their
families are invited. A sign-up list if posted on the bulletin board in the narthex.
Please sign up and tell us what you intend to bring in the way of food.
After we share our meal, we will fellowship with a short “Song Fest.”
We’ll sing a few of your favorite old hymns and even a few praise songs for
those of us who like them, too.
This will be a fun and fellowship opportunity with Pastor Brad and Kay
before they embark on the next phase of their walk with Christ. Pastor Brad
will assume his new position as Norfolk District Superintendent in June.
This Spring Celebration will offer all of us an informal time to show the two of them what they have meant to our
church, how proud we are of them, how much we will miss them, and to with
them well as they take on this challenging new position.
Other Nurture
Ministry Activities
-
Youth ministries are flourishing under our new youth minister, Phil McCombs,
with great plans underway including a Friday night coffee house for our youth and
young adults.
-
Senior Ministries are experiencing new life as well, under the leadership
of Susanne Wilson and Margaret Knight, with multiple plans for programs
and trips.
-
Congregational Care is implementing a program of contact and connection
with folks in our congregation who haven’t worshiped with us recently. This ministry
is seeking to support our shut-ins with lay visitation as well. We are seeking
folks who would be willing to make phone connections with those we are missing.
Contact Alice Konchuba at 467-1892 if you are willing to help in this vital ministry
of connection for our congregation.
-
Stewardship chair Laurie Shertzer has created an opportunity for us to grow
and study as a congregation with the Treasures of a Transformed Life study which
will begin April 6. This is an awesome 6-week opportunity to unite as a congregation
as we learn and grow together. This class is available through Sunday school
classes, at 11 a.m. Sundays, or 7 p.m. Thursdays.
-
Our prayer ministry, headed by Jo Ellen Watson, has formed a team who is
praying for our worship every Sunday morning during all 3 services. We would
welcome you as a part of this important ministry. Please contact Jo Ellen at
cwatson8@erols.com to sign on. There is so much power that God offers
us in prayer. Come to bless others and be blessed yourself as part of this ministry.
We are also planning to lift every member of our congregation in prayer as a staff
and prayer team. We need volunteers to help write notes to members to let them
know that they have been prayed for by our church. Contact Sue Thomas at
tote2thomas@cox.net if you can help in this ministry.
-
Family Ministries has also been busy with a Family Game Night and the Easter
egg hunt for the children. Stephanie Denmyer is coordinating this ministry and
would like to plan regular monthly activities for family fellowship. She is looking
for willing, helping hands to assist her in organizing
these events. Please contact her at 965-5329 or sdenmyer@cox.net to help.

This summer we are also going to have an exciting
opportunity for fellowship and study as a church. For 6 weeks, from July 16 to August 20 we plan to have
potluck fellowship dinners and to offer a broad range of classes to choose from as
we will be ‘Doing Life Together’. Experience the power of being in a small group
as we get to know others in our congregation in new and varied ways.
If you have not been actively involved in CUMC before . . . now is the time.
We have something for everyone.
